My father-in-law reminds us of the “5 P’s” frequently:
Prior     Planning     Prevents     Poor      Performance
But what happens when it doesn’t go according to plan? You have to adapt. And your ability to adapt becomes the new performance predictor. You continue to plan. And you continue to adapt.
Three weeks after opening Cape House we have had to adjust and adapt to things we thought we planned for. The late nights and early mornings continue to provide a unique perspective to this journey we’re on. It’s in the quiet moments, as the list of planning continues to grow, I’m reminded that ultimately, it’s His plan we get to be a part of. It’s not stressful, it’s a blessing.
Success Magazine highlights two key factors in the process of adaptability - flexibility and versatility. Flexibility is the willingness to adapt (your attitude) and versatility is the ability to adapt (your aptitude). In order for your actions to align with your intentions you need the right attitude and a willingness to grow.
From work to relationships, adaptability is key. When we’re quick to point out what didn’t go our way we often fail to see the opportunity we have to change the way we go.
In 2016, a neurological study at Indiana University found that “the more practice you give your brain at feeling and expressing gratitude, the more it adapts to this mind-set. The more thankful we feel, the more likely we are to act pro-socially toward others, causing them to feel grateful and setting up a beautiful virtuous cascade.”
Change is inevitable. The beauty of today, despite our circumstances, is that we get to choose our attitude and how we approach the changes in our life. When we reorient ourselves with an attitude of gratitude it creates a positive effect on us - and others.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
