The Designer Is In!
In the spirit of social distancing and protecting our community, we're taking a break from in-person design consultations and bringing these services directly to you! Whether it's an in-home facetime consultation (2020 - what a time to be alive!) or virtually answering your most pressing design questions, we're still here to help you make your house a home!
Last week we asked you all to submit your design questions via social media and today we're here to tackle each and every one! So, let's get started, shall we?
Q: What colors are you using a lot of right now?
We're suckers for blue (in just about every shade!) but this year we're especially intrigued by the pantone color of the year, classic blue! You can read a bit about why we adore the shade in this post! In addition to blues, we're pulling away from cooler greys and whites and finding ourselves incorporating warmer more natural tones into our designs!
Q: How many pillows is too many pillows for a bed or sofa?
Great question! While we typically style the sofas in our store with 5 or more pillows, we recommend just 2-4 for a traditional length sofa. You want guests to feel that they can sit on a sofa without having to move a thing! It's much more inviting and a lot less awkward for your company. For a bed, the sky is the limit! While it's definitely a personal preference (and often a decision couples need to make together!) we often use 7 or more pillows when styling a queen or king size bed. Pro tip: an oversized basket or bench at the foot of the bed is a great place to store extra pillows at night! For more tips and tricks on pillow styling, this is a great post to reference!
Q: Yes or no to faux floral arrangements?
When done well, we're big fans! Shopping for attractive faux floral arrangements is no easy task but we're happy to have found a few vendors that capture the natural look we love without hefty price tags. Spring is a great time to incorporate a few faux botanicals into your home decor!
Q: I want to do something bold and creative in my dining room but I'm not sure how to do that without sacrificing a "classic" look! I want the dining room to flow with the rest of my home while still making a big impact.
Have you considered a colored table? Last year we went green in a client's formal dining room and couldn't love the look more! We paired a bold green canadel table with gorgeous boxwood green printed chairs. By incorporating classic silhouettes for the tabletop and chairs, we were able to get a bit more creative with the pattern and colors. Selecting the right lighting is also important! We're happy to help you choose the perfect fixtures for your space.
Q: Favorite color scheme for a serene master bedroom?
Look no further! This spa-like shade is exactly what you're going for!
Q: How can I organize kids toys in my formal living room without making it feel like a playroom?!
Baskets, baskets and more baskets! We have so many styles to choose from in-store. We recommend just a couple of larger baskets (don't over-organize!) for easy cleanup that the kids can help with. Seagrass, wickers, and metals are a fun way to incorporate texture while still keeping your space tidy!
Q: Two or three lights over my kitchen island?
We almost always choose two. This post should help you make the right decision based on your island size! There are several factors to consider when choosing the right lighting for your kitchen.
