Some time ago,we read (and fell in love with) Shauna Niequist's book Bread and Wine: A Love Letter to Life Around the Table with Recipes. In it, she details the value of community - and how we connect with friends and family around the table. In the bustle of our daily lives, it's easy to forget just how life-giving these meaningful relationships are. We go-go-go - sacrificing the time to foster the friendships that nourish us and sustain us. After all, we were never meant to do life alone. As a takeaway, we established Supper Club: each month, we get together with close friends to try new recipes and catch up. It's a highlight for all of us - we alternate homes, have fun creatively setting the table, and try new recipes - all in an effort to pour into those relationships. This month, with Cinco de Mayo (and Summer) quickly approaching, we decided tofeature decor and recipes inspired south of the border! The key to decor here: simple and affordable(in fact, most items came from the dollar store!) An authentic Mexican falsa served as table cloth undertextured chargers, white paper flags, and simple, sculpted bright white dishware. The centerpieces: simple glass vases filled with succulents, cacti, and pebbles. These natural elements also served as place cards - and favors. One of our favorite details: thecacti glasses that added a bit of whimsy to the table. Add candles, and you've got a beautiful tablescape that couldn't have been easier to create! This month's menu featured a variety of flavorful courses, from fresh guacamole to Jalapeno Popper Chorizo Taquitos, scratch made Barbacoa, and Sopapilla Cheesecake Bars for dessert. And don't forget, #allthequeso. We've shared all the recipes below - just in time for your own Cinco de Mayo get-together! The heart of our mission is to inspire and assist in creating environments that bring people together. So, we encourage you to set aside time to try these - or your own recipes - to make life's moments memorable.
The heart of hospitality is about creating space for someone to feel seen and heard and loved. It's about declaring your table a safe zone, a place of warmth and nourishment.
