Cooking with the Kids
One of our favorite ways to connect with kids? Get in the kitchen! Cooking together is a great way to bond - and the sense of responsibility it gives leads to trying new ingredients once deemed scary and gross. So, let's cook up some fun this weekend! We rounded up some delicious kid-friendly recipes below:
BREAKFAST // Classic Buttermilk Waffles
We shared this family-favorite recipe on the blog a while back! Kids can help measure and mix ingredients, while the adults handle the waffle iron. Allow the kids to decorate them with fresh seasonal fruit and homemade whipped cream (it's easier than it sounds!) for a special breakfast. Get the full recipe here.
LUNCH // Roasted Turkey and Basil Cream Cheese Pinwheel Sandwiches
We love this simple, delicious Food Network recipe; you can substitute other vegetables, spreads, etc., but the kids have fun putting them all together and rolling them up. Adults, take care of cutting them into pinwheels. Full recipe linked here on Food Network's website!
DINNER // Pizza Pockets
Who doesn't love pizza? These pockets are made even easier with the use of pre-made biscuit dough. Kids can roll them out, stuff them with a variety of ingredients (our pick: fiber-packed veggies), and pinch them closed with a fork. Bake, and you've got a tasty dinner that's just as tasty as they are fun to make! Catch the recipe here on Parenting.com.
DESSERT // Ice Cube Tray Cheesecake Bites
These tiny ice pops are healthy-fied versions of decadent cheesecake made with protein-packed greek yogurt and sweetened with a little honey. Kids can make 'em their own by topping with their choice of fresh berries. Try the recipe here from Super Healthy Kids!
