Sometimes people just aren't the "baby shower" type. Tiffany's sister Dana and her husband Todd are expecting their first child in July, and instead of the traditional shower, they opted for a co-ed event with friends and family. Everyone loves a good backyard barbecue, so we threw 'em a BABY-Q!
The goal here: absolutely no fuss. We kept things simple, traditional, and of course, delicious. The menu included chicken wings on the Green Egg and
pork sliders, made infinitely easier with the help of a trusty slowcooker (we kept that pig theme going with
pigs in a blanket and iced pig cookies). A barbecue wouldn't be complete without mac 'n cheese - we opted for a
handheld version, making it easy for guests to serve themselves one (or three). We rounded out the spread with fruit kabobs, coleslaw, and of course,
banana pudding!
With a little boy on the way, we chose a soft blue check with navy accents for all the decor. We purchased inexpensive fabric cuttings to make a table runner; instead of purchasing decorations, we created printouts for the food table and used frames we already had around the house. We used the same printout design to also create a banner for the gift table and the precious tags on the barbecue sauce favors, printed with "Sweet Baby O's Baby-Q Sauce."
Combine easy recipes and a gorgeous outdoor setting, and the result is a laid-back afternoon affair loved by mom & dad-to-be (and all the guests, too)!
