I love the immediate satisfaction and fresh new look that styling a tabletop surface can offer. This week I'm tackling nightstands! Keep reading for my best tips and tricks on how to style your nightstand!
Nightstands can be a bit challenging because we're dealing with minimal surface space and we need to ensure there's plenty of room for everyday use. If you're anything like me, your nightstand is the hub that holds your phone while it charges, the place to leave your water at night, the spot where you unload your jewelry and of course the home to too many books you're trying to read.
Ready for a little nightstand refresh? Clear off the clutter (a blank canvas is the best starting place!) and follow along with these three easy steps!
Step One: Let's talk light!
Accessible lighting in a bedroom is crucial! I always start with beautiful lamps flanking the bed. While they do take up most of the surface space, lamps are an easy way to bring in a little personality through color and texture. Struggling to find the surface space for a lamp? If you're working with a tight space, hanging wall sconces behind your nightstands is a great option!
Step Two: Pick your pretties!
It's easy to fill your nightstand with trinkets and treasures, but the key here is to play favorites! Choose 1-2 functional items such as a jewelry box, a candle or an alarm clock. Then add in a pretty piece like a dainty picture frame or flowers. As French Impressionist Claude Monet said, "I must have flowers, always and always.” We like the way Monet thinks and usually opt for fresh florals as well!
Step Three: Clean Out Your Drawers & Shelves
Make a habit of regularly clearing out your nightstand drawers and shelves so that there's plenty of room for new additions! Hiding clutter inside the drawers vs. on top of your nightstand is key to a tidy looking space. Now if someone could get my husband on board with this practice... ;)
Don't have drawers OR shelves? Try bringing in a rattan basket underneath your nightstand for additional storage! It's so nice to have a spot to drop those remote controls, magazines, and journals!
NOW THAT WE'VE FRESHENED UP OUR NIGHTSTANDS, WHAT SHOULD WE TACKLE NEXT?!
